Information
The church of Fraissinet-de-Lozère is believed to have been founded and built at the expense of Urban V in the 14th century. However, the current building dates mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries.
It is a very carefully constructed building made of large blocks of granite, the predominant stone of Mount Lozère. Its assembly is very regular and certain polychrome effects are visible with an alternation of granite and sandstone.
The church follows a simple plan with a single nave of three bays ending in a semi-circular apse, as well as two lateral chapels bordering the third bay.
The interior is decorated with a set of restored wall paintings dating from the 18th century. Some arches and window frames are painted in faux-appareil, while the choir is adorned with a set of vegetal volutes.
